Research Opportunities

Undergraduate Students

Plant biotechnology is a field with many applications aimed at improving plants by taking advantage of the vast preexisting potential found in the plant kingdom. A solid training in modern plant science offers many career opportunities that are not limited to the industrial or academic environment. Moreover, studying the secret life of plants is intellectually very satisfying. Plants appear to be totally different compared to animals and evolutionary only very distantly related. And yet, on the cellular level they share many common features, even with people.

If you are interested and would like to gain hands-on research experience in a molecular-oriented laboratory, please don't hesitate to contact me. There are fellowships available via the Department of Biological Sciences such as the Howard Hughes Undergraduate Fellowships or the National Science Foundation's REU initiative. USC offers Magellan Scholarships for undergraduate research. Furthermore, I offer opportunities for BIOL 399 Independent Study (3-credits).
